Actually, I want to make use the picture to reduce text, and also use something comparison to express more information in one page.
In fact, I tell a friend to look at it, his first impression is "what are you take about? It is messy".
I think because we all know the story behind the picture, we still think it is meaningful. But for the other people, more organization of this slide is necessary.
This is very good note. As we discussed in the class, there is a problem with level of visual literacy of many people. Many of us are product of traditional education system where visual literacy are not developed and given attention. In today's world, people are "bombarded" with visual data and information not just through newspaper, television and computers but also through PDA, mobile phones, MP3 players and controlling instrument of many devices and machines. Unless we in education turn visual aspects of modern technology into learning advantage we and develop literacy or digital fluency for contemporary world, then we will find ourselves to be irrelevant. What do you think about this?
Yes, it is obviously that we have not develop visual literacy in the traditional education, especially in HK. As the literature described that visual representaton helps people to understand knowledge very much, visual representation must encourage in the education. I think it should be starting from elementary education.
I totally agreed with you that people nowaday absorb information from variety of media, because of the technology, I think it is not quite appropriate to express large amount of information through text. In fact, no one is willing to read an email more than one page. We need the method to express more but in very small display. Visual representation is the right way to express huge amount of information within a slide, it is easy to read through every media, even PDA or mobile phone.
(p.s. The mobile media, like mobile phone and PDA become important in knowledge transfer. CityU is an example that they developed the learning network by using PDA.)
